Visa Regulations for Visiting India All Non-India passport holders require a valid visa to enter India. Please read this document carefully to get information about obtaining a student visa. Some relevant URLs are http://www.indianembassy.org/consular/consular_fees.htm To download the visa application form, please follow the next link Student Visa Purpose: A Student Visa is intended for a student going to India for education in a school or a college affiliated to a University. Who can get a Student Visa: A Student Visa is granted to an individual who has obtained admission to a school or college or a university in India. Student Visa Fees: Non US Nationals pay $40 for 6-month visa and US nationals pay $60, Non US Nationals pay $65 for 12-month visa and US Nationals pay $85. Non US Nationals pay $130 for a 5-year visa while US Nationals pay $150. Only the 5-year visa permits multiple entries. Documents Required: Admission Letter from a government recognized Institute, your passport, two photographs, health certificate, bank deposit receipt of a minimum of $5000 and Visa Application form. How to obtain a Student Visa: Please go to the Indian Embassy nearest you Monday-Friday between 0930-1230 hrs except holidays. Usually, you will get your visa by 5pm of the next business day. At times it may take up to 5 business days. Registration: International nationals visiting India on a Student Visa and intending to stay more than 90 days are required to register their presence in India with a Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) within 14 days of arrival in India. Regular Registration fees are $15. Failure to register within 14 days will attract additional late charges of $40. Extensions: On a student visa, you are permitted to stay for up to 5-years in India. Extensions can be obtained, if needed. How to Obtain Extensions: Extensions up to max total stay of 10 years can be obtained by making a written application at a FRO office. The Extension Application costs are usually between $10 to $20. Role of SPICE.ORG and your School/College in India: When your admission in India is facilitated by SPICE.ORG, then SPICE.ORG will send you the letter of admission to your school or university in India. These letters can be used to obtain a Student Visa to India. When in India, you have the responsibility of Registration within 14-days of arrival in India. Please note that all fees relating to Visa, Registration and Extension are to be paid by you. Who should Visit India for Education on a Student Visa: If you are coming for education at a school or college or university in India, then you should come to India on a student visa.
