Education Destinations In India The various education providers that have partnered with SPICE.ORG are essentially located in four different types of locales across India. The metropolitan cities within India are generally large with a population that exceeds 4 million. These cities have a cosmopolitan culture, with multi-cuisine restaurants, large shopping malls, pubs, nightclubs and have varied public transportation like rail, bus, taxi and three wheeler “rickshaws”. All the modern conveniences are available and off campus housing ranges from the budget to the luxurious and is easily available. These cities are well connected to India by air, rail and road and have good connectivity to the rest of the world. Examples of metros include Mumbai (Bombay), Bangalore, National Capital Region (New Delhi) and Chennai (Madras). Cities in India are fairly cosmopolitan however they do maintain their Indian flavour and culture. Cable television, internet connectivity and mobile services are available, along with facilities like multiplex theatres, shopping complexes and nightclubs. They are generally well connected to India via air, rail and road. Examples of cities in India include Lucknow, Bhopal, Indore and Chandigarh. TOWNS The towns in India vary in size and have some of the infrastructure of the metros. Cable television, internet connectivity and mobile services are generally available, though might not be of the same speed and quality of the cities and metros. Towns usually lack in facilities like large multiplex theatres, shopping complexes and nightclubs. They are generally well connected to India via rail and road though air transport is usually absent. Examples of towns include Vijaywada, Kakinada, Msyore and Jalandhar. Hill-stations are picturesque hamlets located in the various mountain ranges that make up India. Many of these hill-stations date back to British colonial times and provide sylvan and serene vistas. They are a great place to get away and many of the institutions here enjoy this as one of their unique selling points. Access in usually by road though many are also well connected by rail, however air transport is generally non existent. They are generally located between 100-200 kms from metro or large town where air transport is available. Examples of hill-stations include Kodaikanal, Ooty, and Khandala.
